Successful person according to Vidura


Vidura has given some characteristics of happiness, famous, successful, wise and full person. It is also saying what you have to do or what don’t. Its really amazing read once than post your comments on the same.

We are generally saying we are understanding what we should and we should not. But after reading it I am sure you will feel new born person. If you know where I should and where I not that’s it.


·         What is forgiveness?,
a) That defect, however, should not be taken into consideration b) Forgiveness is a great power c) Forgiveness is a virtue of the weak, and an ornament of the strong d) Forgiveness subdue (all) in this world e) What is there that forgiveness cannot achieve? f) Righteousness is the one highest good g) forgiveness is the one supreme peace h) knowledge is one supreme contentment and benevolence (well wishing)

·         These two are like sharp thorns afflicting the body,
a) The desires of a poor man b) The anger of the impotent.

·         These two persons never shine because of their incompatible acts,
a) A householder without exertion b) A beggar busied in schemes.

·         These two live in a region higher than heaven itself,
a) A man of power endued (provide) with forgiveness b) poor Man that is charitable.

·         These two must be looked upon as misuse,
a) Making gifts to the unworthy b) refusing the worthy.

·         These two should be thrown into the water, tightly binding weights to their necks,
a) A wealthy man that does not give away b) A poor man that is proud.

·         These two can pierce the orb itself of the sun,
a)    A mendicant (beggar) accomplished in yoga b) a warrior that has fallen in open fight.

·         Great fear spring from these three crimes,
a)    Theft of other's property b) outrage on other's wives  c) breach with friend.

·         These three, besides, being destructive to one's own self, are the gates of hell, Therefore, every one should renounce(not do) them,
a)    Lust b) anger c) covetousness (Great desire).

·         Learned men should never consult with these four,
a) Men of small sense b) men that are procrastinating (differ action) c) men that are indolent (opposed in right action) d) men that are flatterers.

·         Four things capable of make fruitful or occurring within a single day,
a) The resolve of the gods b) the comprehensions of intelligent persons c) the humility of learned men and d) the destruction of the sinful.

·         These five fires, should be worshipped with regard by a person,
a) Father b) mother c) fire (proper) d) soul and e) preceptor (teacher).

·         By serving these five, men attain great fame in this world,
a) The gods b) the Parents c) men d) beggars and e) guests.

·         Wherever you go, these five will follow you,
a) Friends b) enemies c) neutral persons d) those who offer refuge and e) those who take refuge in you

·         The six faults should be avoided by a person who wished to attain prosperity,
a) Sleep b) drowsiness (light sleep) c) fear d) anger e) indolence and f) procrastination.

·         These six should be renounced like a splitting vessel in the sea,
a) a preceptor that cannot expound (explain) the scriptures b) a priest That is illiterate c) a ruler that is unable to protect d)  a wife that speak the disagreeable words e) a cow-herd that do not wish to go to the fields and f) a barber that wished to renounce a village for the woods.

·         Those six qualities should never be forsaken (Give up) by men,
a) Truth b) charity c) diligence d) benevolence e) forgiveness and f) patience.

·         These six comprise the happiness of men,
a) Acquirement of wealth b) uninterrupted health c) a beloved and a sweet speeches wife d) an obedient son and e) knowledge that is lucrative (profitable).

·         These six may be seen to subsist upon who succeeded in gaining the mastery,
a) thieves, upon persons that are careless b) physicians, on persons that are ailing c) women, upon persons suffering from lust; d) priests, upon them that sacrifice e) a ruler, upon persons that quarrel and f) lastly men of learning, upon them that are without it.

·         These six are instantly destroyed, if neglected,
a) Kin (family and Relatives) b) service c) agriculture d) a wife e)  learning and f) the wealth of a poor.

·         These six forget those who have bestowed (grant) obligations on them,
a) Educated disciples (followers), their preceptors b) married persons, their mothers c) persons whose desires have been gratified, women d) they who have achieved success, they who had rendered aid e) they who have crossed a river, the boat (that carried them over) and f) patients that have been cured, their physicians.

·         These six, conduce to the happiness of men,
a) Health b) not indebted (gratitude c) living at home d) companionship with good men e) certainty as regards the means of livelihood and f) living without fear.

·         These six are always miserable,
a) The envious b) the malicious (desire to harm) c) the discontented (Dissatisfaction) d) the irascible (easily annoyed) e) the ever-suspicious and f) those depending upon the fortunes of others.

·         One should renounce these seven faults that are productive of calamity (disaster),
a) inasmuch as they are able to effect the ruin of even monarchs firmly established b) these are women c) dice d) hunting e) drinking f) harshness of speech g) severity of punishment and h) misuse of wealth

·         These eight are the immediate indications of a man destined to destruction,
a) hating the learned man b) disputes with learned man c) appropriation of a learned man 's possessions d) taking the life of learned man e) taking a pleasure in reviling learned man f) grieving to hear the praises of learned man g)  forgetting them on ceremonious occasions and h) giving vent (allowing) to spite when they ask for anything.

·         These eight are the very cream of happiness, and these only are attainable here,
a) meeting with friends b) accession of immense wealth c) embracing a son d) union for intercourse e) conversation with friends in proper times f) the advancement of persons belong to one's own party g) the acquisition of what had been anticipated and h) respect in society.

·         These seven qualities glorify a man,
a) Wisdom b) high birth c) self-restraint d) learning e) prowess f) moderation in speech gift according to one's power and g) gratitude

·         These ten do not know what virtue is (Therefore, wise must eschew the company of these),
a) the intoxicated b)  inattentive c) the raving (wild talk) d) the fatigued e) the angry f) the starving g) the hasty h) the covetous and i) the frightened, and j) the lustful

·         He is a wise person,
a) who do not disregard even a weak foe b) who proceeds with intelligence in respect of a foe (enemy) c) anxiously watching for an opportunity d) who do not desire hostilities with persons stronger than himself and e) who display his prowess in season

·         Man of good nature and conduct,
a) He who exult (joyful) not at his own happiness b) nor delighted in another's misery and c) who repented not after having made a gift  d) He who desired to obtain knowledge of the customs of different countries and the languages of different nations e) the usages of different orders of men f)  know at once all that is high and low and wherever he may go g) he is sure to gain an ascendancy over even those that are glad. h) Who behave neither arrogantly nor with too much humility i) who even when distressed never committed an improper act

·         The intelligent man who relinquish (resign) given , is the foremost of his species,
a) Pride b) folly c) insolence d) sinful acts e) disloyalty towards the nation f) crookedness (dishonest) of behavior g) enmity with many and also quarrels with men that are drunk, mad and wicked
